These obligations have been imposed on isopropyl alcohol, sulphur black, cellophane transparent film, thermoplastic polyurethane and unframed glass mirror

India has imposed anti-dumping responsibility on 5 Chinese items, together with glass mirror and cellophane obvious film, for 5 years to guard domestic players from reasonably-priced imports from the neighbouring country.

These obligations had been imposed as these products — isopropyl alcohol, sulphur black, cellophane obvious movie, thermoplastic polyurethane, unframed glass replicate — were exported to India from China at below regular expenses.

In 5 separate notifications, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Department of Revenue, stated that the responsibility imposed “shall be levied for a length of 5 years”.

The government has imposed the $ 82 in line with tonne and $ 217 per tonne duty on different Chinese companies on isopropyl alcohol, which has medical and commercial uses. It is likewise used as an antiseptic for skin and instrumentation, and hand sanitiser.

On imports of sulphur black, whose general imports in 2023-24 become $ 4.3 million, a duty of up to $ 389 consistent with tonne has been imposed. It is used for dyeing fabric, paper and leather-based.

Similarly, import of thermoplastic polyurethane, which has applications in car, scientific and electronics industries, will now entice anti-dumping responsibility inside the variety of $ 0.93 per kg to $ 1.58 per kg.

The anti-dumping obligation of cellophane obvious movie, used as a packing material, has been kept at $ 1.34 according to kg. In 2023-24, the full imports of the product stood at approximately $ 60 million.

On unframed glass mirrors, the anti-dumping responsibility of $ 234 in line with tonne has been imposed.

These duties are imposed after suggestions for the same had been made by way of the trade ministry’s research arm DGTR.

Earlier this month, the DGTR has initiated a probe into alleged dumping of as many as six product, including of certain chemical substances, and cold rolled electrical metallic and black toner powder cartridge, imported from China following separate proceedings from domestic gamers.

The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) is probing the dumping of 1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane or R-134a; Acrylonitrile Butadiene Rubber; certain antioxidants; polytetrafluoroethylene; black toner powder cartridge; and cold rolled non-orientated electrical metal from China.

According to 6 separate notifications, the applicants have alleged that material damage is being brought on to the domestic industry because of the dumped imports of these merchandise originating in or exported from China into India.

They have requested for imposition of anti-dumping duty on these imports on the way to shield them from reasonably-priced imports.

If it is established that these dumplings have prompted cloth damage to home gamers, the DGTR recommends the imposition of anti-dumping responsibility. The finance ministry takes the final decision to impose these obligations. Anti-dumping probes are conducted with the aid of international locations to determine whether domestic industries have been hurt because of a surge in reasonably-priced imports.

As a countermeasure, they impose these obligations beneath the multilateral regime of Geneva-primarily based World Trade Organization (WTO). The obligation is aimed toward ensuring honest trading practices and growing a stage-gambling discipline for home producers vis-a-vis overseas producers and exporters.

India has earlier already imposed anti-dumping obligation on several merchandise to address reasonably-priced imports from various nations, including China.

India and China each are contributors of the WTO. China is the second one biggest trading accomplice of India. The country has again flagged critical concerns over the widening change deficit with the neighbouring united states, which stood at $ 85 billion in 2023-24.
