Epsilon Carbon has commissioned a 300,000-tonnes-per-annum (TPA) Specialty Carbon facility at Vijayanagar, Karnataka, doubling its total Specialty Carbon capacity to 600,000 TPA and reinforcing its position in India’s hastily expanding specialty carbon industry.

The expansion places Epsilon Carbon within the country’s largest specialty carbon manufacturers and adds capacity targeted toward serving both domestic industries and worldwide customers.

Built around Industry 4.0 concepts, the new facility incorporated advanced process controls, digital automation and intelligent production systems to enhance product consistency, operational efficiency and supply reliability.

The plant will manufacture Coal Tar Pitch, Crude and Refined Naphthalene, Anthracene Oil, Wash Oil, Creosote Oil and other value-added carbon derivatives. These materials are essential to a huge range of sectors, such as aluminium, graphite, steel, tyres, paints and dyes, pharmaceuticals, construction chemicals and advanced materials.

Speaking on the occasion, Gaurav Mathur, Chief Executive Officer, Epsilon Carbon, stated, “This expansion shows India’s developing capability to emerge as a worldwide supplier of specialty carbon materials.

“With 600,000 TPA of Specialty Carbon capacity, we are reinforcing supply chain resilience for both domestic industries and worldwide clients, specially the worldwide aluminium sector. As the world looks to diversify supply chains, Epsilon Carbon is proud to contribute to India’s emergence as a reliable, sustainable and globally competitive production hub.”

The Vijayanagar commissioning is a main step in Epsilon Carbon’s wider enlargement plans. The company is also developing an incorporated Carbon Complex at Jharsuguda, Odisha, that’s anticipated to take its Specialty Carbon capacity to 1 million TPA by 2029 and position Epsilon Carbon among the world’s largest incorporated specialty carbon producers.

Sustainability is built into the Vijayanagar complex. The facility works on a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system, allowing a 100% of treated with wastewater to be reused in the plant. Its 17 MW captive power plant, fuelled via recovered waste gases, meets the complex’s complete energy needs while reducing its carbon footprint.

Epsilon Carbon’s responsible-production credentials include Responsible Care certification, an EcoVadis Silver Rating and SA8000 certification, showing its stated commitments to health and safety, environmental stewardship, ethical business practices and social accountability.
