Aether Industries, Dow India release joint research programme on silicone production technology

Surat-based speciality chemicals firm and contract research and production services (CRAMS) provider, Aether Industries Ltd., has declared a collaborative research programme with US-based Dow’s Indian arm, Dow Chemical International Pvt. Ltd., to broaden new production technologies for silicones.

Silicones are used across construction, mobility, electronics, healthcare and personal care. The companies stated the programme was targeted toward creating a substantial opportunity for indigenous technology development and production in India. The two companies will together execute the programme, with all research and pilot-scale development based at Aether’s R&D and pilot facilities in Surat. The collaboration also lays the groundwork for a longer-term strategic partnership, along with the potential commercialisation and industrial-scale production of technology evolved under the programme.

Dr. Aman Desai, co-founder and Director, Research and Operations at Aether Industries, stated the collaboration integrating Aether’s chemistry and technology capabilities with Dow’s global expertise in silicone applications would support cope with India’s fast-growing silicone materials market.

Ms. Brendy Lange, President of Dow Performance Materials & Coatings, said the tie-up reinforced Dow’s ability to bring materials science innovation closer to high-growth markets, even as Dr. Mukund Parthasarathy, Business Vice President of R&D at the same divison, stated the collaborative approach could support pass move science to scalable technologies quicker. Mr. Siddhartha Ghosal, Country President of Dow India, stated the programme brought together the two companies’ strengths to serve customers, help local innovation and broaden access to high-performance silicone solutions across industries.
