German specialty chemicals company Lanxess and Mumbai-based Hindustan Colas Pvt. Ltd. (HINCOL), a bitumen and road construction solutions company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to discover cooperation on road construction technologies for the Indian market.

The agreement sets up a framework for comparing technical and commercial opportunities in bitumen and asphalt modification.

The companies will run joint laboratory and commercial-scale trials of Addipave CR 36, Lanxess’ cross-linking technology for polymer modified bitumen (PMB). The companies mention that it could enhance PMB manufacturing efficiency, product consistency and operational safety.

Lanxess will supply the product, technical expertise and trial support. HINCOL will offer testing centers, operational support and overall performance assessment under local conditions.

The MoU also covers reviewing and promoting Addipave WM 23, Lanxess’ warm integrate asphalt additive, thru joint trials and market development. The target is to decrease asphalt manufacturing and paving temperatures at the same time as maintaining road performance. This is anticipated to cut energy use and emissions.
