China to spearhead global ethylene oxide capability additions through 2028, says GlobalData

In China, the maximum capacity addition is expected from the “Shandong Yulong Petrochemical Longkou Ethylene Oxide Plant 1” with a capability of 0.73 mtpa

China is probable to register the best ethylene oxide potential additions globally by 2028, contributing approximately 75% of the full capacity additions from upcoming planned and declared venture, according to GlobalData, a main information and analytics enterprise.

GlobalData’s modern day report, “Ethylene Oxide Industry Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of Active and Planned Plants to 2028,” reveals that China is in all likely to witness a complete ethylene oxide capability additions of 5.43 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) at some stage in 2024-2028 from eleven deliberate and two declared ventures.

Nivedita Roy, Oil and Gas Analyst at GlobalData, feedback: “Ethylene oxide is one of the major petrochemicals, mainly used as a precursor to several chemical merchandise and derivatives. The developing demand for ethylene oxide in China’s healthcare and textile sectors is riding the need for capability expansions in the country.”

In China, the highest capability addition is predicted from the “Shandong Yulong Petrochemical Longkou Ethylene Oxide Plant 1” with a ability of 0.73 mtpa. The plant is expected to start ethylene oxide manufacturing in 2024 in the state of Shandong.

The 2nd highest capability addition within the country is from “BASF Zhanjiang Ethylene Oxide Plant” with 0.66 mtpa. The plant is presently under construction and is expected to start operations by way of 2025. BASF Corp has 100% equity in addition to the proposed operator of the plant.

“Tangshan Xu Yang Petrochemical Tangshan Ethylene Oxide Plant” follows next, and is anticipated to start operations in 2027 with an annual manufacturing potential of 0.65 mtpa.
