BASF-Hannong JV launches surfactant plant in Korea

BASF Hannong Chemicals Solutions (BHCS), the joint venture among BASF and Hannong Chemicals, has formally inaugurated its latest non-ionic surfactant (NIS) ,manufacturing site at the Daesan Industrial Complex in Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do.

The ceremony drew pinnacle officials and executives, along with Tae-heum Kim, Governor of Chungcheongnam-do; Wan-seop Lee, Mayor of Seosan; Daniel Wussow, President of Care Chemicals, BASF (powerful April 1, 2026); Woo Suk Lee, Managing Director of BASF Korea; Eung-sang Kim, CEO of Hannong Chemicals; and Sang-ho Kyung, President of Hannong Chemicals.

extending about 12,234 m², the latest facility is managed through BHCS, in which BASF holds a 51% stake and Hannong Chemicals 49%. Trial operations started in January 2026. The plant aspects a swing tank to increase manufacturing versatility and ensure supply dependability, thanks to support form Chungcheongnam-do Province and the City of Seosan.

The site integrates BASF’s advanced technology and product development with Hannong Chemicals’ efficient production capabilities, allowing a dependable supply of high-quality surfactants across Asia. Future expansions will consist specialty surfactants, further reinforcing BASF’s global manufacturing community.

These non-ionic surfactants provide various industries, from chemicals and agriculture to cosmetics, personal care, and polymer and polyurethane foam stabilization.

“Through its collaboration with Hannong Chemicals, BASF will improve its potential to serve customers locally in a quick growing region. This plant will reinforce BASF’s global manufacturing network for non-ionic surfactants and provide a foundation for responding to consumer requirements throughout numerous industries,” stated Daniel Wussow.

Kim Eung Sang added: “It could be very meaningful for us to finish this manufacturing base that integrate world-class technology and production capabilities by our cooperation with BASF. With this latest site, we will further reinforce our competitiveness in the non-ionic surfactants market and provide higher-quality products and solutions to customers.”
