In Surat four men working at a unit of Gujarat Fluorochemicals Ltd (GFL) at Dahej GIDC in Bharuch district died inside the early hours of Sunday due to a gas leak from the plant.
The accident came about at the CMS-1 plant of GFL around 8 pm on Saturday. The company disclosed Rs 30 lakh reimbursement to the family of each victim.
They have been shifted to the unit’s healthcare centre and later driven to a clinic in Bharuch, where three of them died around 3 am, at the same time as every other succumbed at 6 am on Sunday.

“We received a call at 3 am on Sunday. Four employees fell subconscious due to a gas leak from the pipe passing via the floor of the enterprise’s CMS plant.

Police inspector B M Patidar stated the employees were driven to a private hospital in Bharuch where in all 4 died. The deceased had been diagnosed as Rajesh Kumar Maganadiya (48) from Bharuch, Suchit Prasad (39) and Mahesh Nandlal (25) from Uttar Pradesh, and Mundrika Yadav (29) from Jharkhand. While the primary three died at 3 am, Yadav succumbed at 6 am.
Meantime, the enterprise also provided employment to the ward of its deceased workers. “Each own family will obtain an ex gratia of Rs 30 lakh, together with the whole settlement of statutory dues, insurance benefits, and pending salaries,” said the statement.
It delivered: “Additionally, we are providing employment to the ward of our deceased employee and sponsoring his education. We also are committed to addressing any demand of all affected families. We are in near contact with the families.”
Soon after the incident, local police, the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), and officials from the directorate of commercial safety and Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) rushed to the hospital and the unit.
Bharuch SDM Manisha Manani instructed the media: “We have been informed in the morning about the accident. The bodies had been dispatched to the civil hospital in Bharuch for postmortem and an investigation is going on. We have talked to the enterprise and the own family members. We will assist the families in every way.”
