This facility describes an funding of round US$ 250 million and could process 50 million cubic feet per day (Mcf/d) of gas formerly flared
TotalEnergies (45%, operator) and its partners Basra Oil Company (30%) and QatarEnergy (25%) released the construction works of ArtawiGas25, a first processing facility for the related gas from the Ratawi field, located in the Basra place.
This facility, that’s part of the Gas Growth integrated project (GGIP), describes a funding of round US$ 250 million and could process 50 million cubic feet per day (Mcf/d) of gas already burnt. The gas will supply local power plants, covering the need of about 200,000 households within the Basra region.
Signed in September 2021, the GGIP venture is a US$ 10 billion multi energy venture designed increase the development of Iraq’s herbal assets and improve the country’s electricity supply. The GGIP involves a big scale gas processing plant, with a first phase of 300 Mcf/d with a purpose to get better gas being flared on 3 oil fields and deliver gas to 1.5 GW of power technology potential.
In expectation of the start up of this important gas processing facility, the ArtawiGas25 venture will drastically less gas flaring at the Ratawi field as early as end 2025. The creative modular design of ArtawiGas25 could also pave the way for capability replication throughout different Iraqi oil fields. ArtawiGas25 will create up to 160 direct and indirect jobs for Iraqi nationals throughout production segment and 30 jobs throughout operation phase.
“We are very thrilled to release the ArtawiGas25 project: it will supply the Iragi people a tangible insight into the advantages of the GGIP, so as to offer extra energy with less emissions. Through this venture, TotalEnergies is establishing its capacity to deliver treasured and rapid solutions in accordance with the authorities expectations and the country’s electricity needs. We look forward to the next GGIP milestones within the coming weeks with the begin of production of the 1 GW solar project”, stated Julien Pouget, Senior Vice President Middle East & North Africa, Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies.
