Evonik introduces fumed alumina facility in Japan

Germany’s Evonik has officially started its first fumed alumina manufacturing facility “Alu5” in Yokkaichi, Japan. The corporation stated the “mid double-digit million Euro investment” will support serve the Asian marketplace with advanced aluminium oxide-based solutions.

“The release of our Alu5 plant is more than just another capacity expansion – it’s a strategic move to bring our high-performance aluminium oxide products toward our clients in Asia,” referred to Mr. Emmanuel Auer, Head of Evonik’s Smart Effects business line. Mr. Elias Lacerda, Head of Evonik’s Coating Additives business line delivered, “From battery technologies to coatings, we’re allowing a rapid, more efficient access to the materials that power those industries today and tomorrow.”

The new facility will produce Aeroxide branded fumed aluminium oxide solution made for ultra-thin coating technology that’s said to considerably improve the performance and durability for value chains starting from electric mobility, consumer electronics to sustainable powder coatings.

The outcomes of building this facility denotes the collaborative efforts among the two Evonik segments – Custom Solutions (such as Coating Additives business line) and Advanced Technology (which includes Smart Effects business line) – underlining the advantages of having both under one roof. Moreover, the project reflects Evonik’s broader vision to drive sustainable development in speciality chemicals while addressing the including demands of industries transitioning to cleaner, smarter solutions.
