BASF has reinforced its position in the global personal care ingredients market with the inauguration of a new specialty emollients manufacturing plant in Düsseldorf, demonstrating the site’s largest funding in a decade.
The new facility will produce specialty emollients used in skin care and sun protection products, considerably broadening BASF’s production capacity to fulfill rising demand across the European and global cosmetics markets.
The investment, valued in the mid double-digit million-euro variety, also guide the company’s goal on renewable raw material-based ingredients and more sustainable personal care formulations.
The venture become formally launch on July 16 in the presence of customers, BASF executives, representatives from the City of Düsseldorf, political leaders and industry associations.
Agus Ciputra, head of BASF’s global Personal Care business unit, emphasized the strategic significance of the investment.
“The new plant is more than an investment in manufacturing. It is an investment in our specialization and in our ability to support customers bring differentiated products to market. By increasing our manufacturing capacity for specialty emollients primarily based on renewable raw materials, we’re laying the foundation for innovative personal care solutions that meet developing consumer expectations for performance, formulation flexibility and sustainability.”
The facility reinforces BASF’s ability to supply emollients—main components that help retain skin moisture at the same time as improving the sensory sense of personal care formulations—as demand persist to develop for high-performance skincare products.
Sven Crone, who’s worldwide liable for manufacturing in BASF’s Care Chemicals division, stated the investment also strengthens the long-term competitiveness of the Düsseldorf site.
“We are satisfied that our Düsseldorf manufacturing site is well positioned for the future, and we are taking decisive steps to secure its competitiveness. This capacity expansion is one of the most robust signals of that commitment.
“From planning and regulatory approval to the construction segment, we overcame many demanding situations and, thanks to the top notch collaboration amongst all those included, have been able to commission the plant after 2-years of construction. I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who contributed.”
The Düsseldorf site is BASF’s third-largest manufacturing place in Europe and serves as the company’s largest global hub for the manufacturing and development of cosmetic ingredients. The latest-expansion further reinforces what BASF explains as its most comprehensive emollients portfolio for the cosmetics and personal care industry.
