Investments focus polyurethane and epoxy supply growth while supporting electrification and emissions reduction at main manufacturing sites.
Evonik declared on April 21 that it has commenced operations at an expanded specialty amine manufacturing facility in Nanjing, China, and commissioned a new high-voltage substation at its Antwerp, Belgium, site to help manufacturing capacity and energy infrastructure upgrades.
As per the company, the Nanjing expansion demonstrates a double-digit-million-euro investment to rise manufacturing of amine-primarily based additives used in polyurethane foams and epoxy curing system. The company stated the added capacity assist demand for materials utilized in automotive, creation, coatings and adhesives applications, mainly those needs lower volatile organic compound emissions and enhanced processing performance.
The upgraded facility is reportedly formed for commercial-scale manufacturing of reactive specialty amines and reinforces its global production network and raw material access. The company included that the site operates on green electricity and is meant to support regional supply and broader Asia-Pacific demand.
Other green energy projects were currently finished at the company’s Antwerp site in Belgium, with the commissioning of a 150-kilovolt substation to update an present 36-kilovolt connection and rise available electrical capacity. As per the company, the improve upgraded incorporation of extra electrified processes, such as heat pumps and energy-efficient systems, while guiding efforts to reduce reliance on fossil energy.
The substation consists of 2-transformers and multiple high-voltage cable connections mounted in coordination with transmission system operator Elia. Evonik stated the venture is a part of a broader program to modernize power distribution infrastructure and assist long-term site operations.
The company said that both ventures are meant to reinforce manufacturing capabilities and support ongoing efforts to improve efficiency and reduce emissions across its global operations.
