Fujifilm constructed a new building for developing novel semiconductor materials

Japan’s diversified conglomerate, Fujifilm Corporation, has declared that its semiconductor materials subsidiary, Fujifilm Electronic Materials Co., Ltd. (FFEM), has started operations at its Shizuoka manufacturing unit for development and analyzation of advanced semiconductor materials.

This investment strengthens the corporations abilities for overall performance and quality analyzation of development products, increasing the progress of latest materials for advanced and next-generation semiconductors and making sure a stable supply of high-quality products.

Fujifilm stated its semiconductor materials business has elevated sales by about times 1.7 times from FY2021 to FY2024, becoming one of the core businesses accelerating the growth of the Fujifilm organization. To help this development, Fujifilm has invested over 100-billion yen ($640-mn) in facilities from FY2021 to FY2024, and plans to invest an additional 100-billion yen or more from FY2025 to FY2026.

The new building at Shizuoka is equipped with evaluation equipment in a high-cleanliness cleanroom, enhancing quality evaluation functions for development and production. AI image recognition technology has been presented to look into fine particles included in semiconductor materials, improving evaluation precision and establishing an advanced quality manage system utilizing AI. Moreover, a department fostering digital transformation (DX) has been installed in the new building to assist the expansion of digital technologies along with AI in production procedures, thereby improving product quality and making sure stable supply.

“Earlier investments have also reinforced the development and mass manufacturing systems for core materials which includes polyimides 6 for next-generation semiconductor packaging. Fujifilm will hold to enlarge manufacturing capacity and develop technologies to satisfy various customers requirements, along with accelerating demand for AI semiconductors,” the corporation updated in a press note. Fujifilm is a worldwide supplier of photoresists, photolithography-related materials, CMP slurries, submit-CMP cleaners, thin-film chemicals, polyimides, high-purity process chemicals, and different process materials for semi-conductor production.
