NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL), the green energy arm of power generation PSU, NTPC, has invited Indian and worldwide green chemical organizations to expand ventures at its Pudimadaka green hydrogen hub in Andhra Pradesh.

The Pudimadaka hub is anticipated to provide 2.5 million metric tons in line with year of green chemicals, consisting of ammonia, methanol, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and urea. With a captive port, the facility pursuits to assist exports.

The hub will have 7 GW electrolyser capability, 7.5-GW GIS substations, 7.5-GW transmission lines from CTU substation, desalination plant, chemicals storage & logistics centers, etc. NGEL also plans a Rs. 30,000-crore transmission network to power the facility.

According to the expressions of interest (EoI) launched on 24 September, to qualify, the proposed green chemical ventures need to source RE (renewable erg) power, water, and other main inputs exclusively from NGEL. The green power for the energy intensive hub shall be arranged by using NGEL from Andhra Pradesh. Upon evaluation and shortlisting of EoI responses, NGEL and the chosen developers will enter into agreements, along with land sub-lease agreement, RE power sale agreement, water supply agreement, green hydrogen/green ammonia/biogenic CO₂ supply agreements and/or potential joint venture agreements.

The project, with a complete anticipated funding of about Rs. 1.85 trillion, become formally released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2025. It is being developed at the same time via NGEL and the Non-traditional Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP). The two entities have already signed a joint venture to develop 20-GW of renewable energy, 1,500 tons consistent with day of green hydrogen, and 7,500 tons consistent with day of green hydrogen derivatives, which includes green methanol, green urea, and SAF, making it certainly one of India’s largest integrated green hydrogen facilities.
