Two employees die of asphyxiation in chemical unit reactor in Mangrol

Surat – Two employees died of asphyxiation at a chemical production unit in Mangrol of Surat district on Saturday while cleaning a reactor tank. The victims, Rajan Rajput (37) and Rajan Sharma (27), have been announced dead after being taken to hospital in Ankleshwar.

The accident took place at Mangalmurti Bio-Chem Pvt Ltd, located near Nana Borsara village. According to police, Rajput, a fitter, had entered the reactor tank round 10:30am to clean it. As he was descending the using a metal ladder, he lost his stability and fell into the 16-foot-deep tank in which chemicals are particularly mixed. Hearing his cries for help, Sharma, an electrician who was near by, rushed to rescue him.

However, Sharma also collapsed in the tank due to asphyxiation earlier than he ought to bring Rajput out. Other staff members ready with safety equipment finally pulled both men out of the tank. They had been immediately taken to the hospital in Ankleshwar but were declared death.

Rajput was from Gausganj village in Ara taluka of Bihar’s Bhojpur district, at the same time as Sharma was a native of Deoria in Uttar Pradesh. Both were residing in Kharod, Ankleshwar.

Kosamba police registered a case of accidental demise and have launched an investigation. Officers are recording statements from loved ones and coworkers to ascertains the instances leading to the tragedy.

Police had been alerted about the incident by Sachhidanand Sharma, the uncle of one of the deceased and a manager at the unit.
