Surat – Two city based enterprises have been charged within the US for assumed criminal conspiracies to import and distribute fentanyl precursor chemical compounds to the US

The enterprises, Athos Chemicals and Raxuter Chemicals, and the promoter of Raxuter Chemicals, Bhavesh Lathiya (36), are reportedly included in the crime. Lathiya is also charged with smuggling and addressing misbranded drugs.

Lathiya was arrested in New York City on 4th Jan and is below detention pending trial. If accused, he will face a large compensation of 53 years in prison.

It is likewise being investigated if both the enterprises are associated to each other.

Until 2022, Lathiya was executive director of Athos Collagen, in step with his LinkedIn profile. Athos Collagen operates its office from the same floor as Athos Chemicals in the Jahangirpura area of the town, in keeping with their websites.

TOI visited the office of Athos Chemicals on Wednesday, however officials present there refused to talk, claiming that no senior official was available.

According to US Department of Justice, “Fentanyl, a Schedule II controlled substance, is the deadliest drug risk presently dealing with the USA. In Oct 2024, Lathiya, on a video call with an undercover officer of Homeland Security Investigations, mentioned the sale of fentanyl precursor chemical compounds. Lathiya admitted to sell 20kg of 1-boc-4-piperidone and proposed mislabeling the chemical as an antacid after the agent advised him that “customers in Mexico were very glad with the satisfactory of what you dispatched me” and with “the yield they got of the final product.”

In Nov 2024, Raxuter Chemicals and Lathiya shipped about 20kg of 1-boc-four-piperidone to New York. The package was mislabelled as an antacid.

In Feb 2024, Athos Chemicals admitted to sell 100kg of 1-boc-4-piperidone to a acknowledged drug trafficker in Mexico who was making fentanyl in affiliation with a drug trafficking company.
