Kandla Port commissions 1 MW inexperienced hydrogen plant

The plant is capable to manufacture about 140 metric tons of green hydrogen yearly and is poised to play a essential role in maritime decarbonization and sustainable port operations

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the 1 MW green hydrogen power plant at the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla.

Sonowal acclaimed the development as a “most important step towards satisfying PM Narendra Modi’s 2030 vision” by the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

This milestone stands as a powerful symbol of India’s green transformation below the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reinforces the nation’s commitment to attaining net zero emissions.

Recalling the Prime Minister’s laying of the foundation stone for a 10 MW green hydrogen plant for the duration of his visit to Bhuj on 26 May 2025, Sonowal appreciated the fast execution of the venture.

The commissioning of the 1 MW module within just 4 months, as a part of the bigger 10 MW venture, reflects a new benchmark for execution in India’s green hydrogen ecosystem.

“DPA has turned that vision into real, a shining example of speed, scale, and skill under Maritime India Vision 2030,” said Sonowal.

The plant is capable of manufacturing also 140 metric tons of green hydrogen annually and is poised to play a critical position in maritime decarbonization and sustainable port operations.

Sonowal also lauded DPA’s continuous commitment to green ventures, mentioning the sooner deployment of India’s first Make-in-India all-electric powered Green Tug. The Minister praised the established of a completely atma-nirbhar, future-geared up hydrogen ecosystem constructed entirely with the aid of Indian engineers, and known as it an idea for ports throughout the country to adopt green and modern technologies.

“This green hydrogen plant is a shining testament to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose formidable and transformative National Green Hydrogen Mission is steering India in the direction of a cleanser, greener, and self-reliant future. Under his guidance, we’re witnessing the sunrise of a new era in sustainable maritime development,” stated Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

Congratulating the leadership of DPA and the engineering excellence of L&T, the Minister said, “I commend the entire team of Deendayal Port Authority, led by using the Chairman, and recognize the engineers of L&T for delivering this complex venture with amazing speed and precision.”
