New capability meets increasing demand for the production of chips in Europe

BASF will increase its manufacturing potential for semiconductor-grade sulfuric acid (H2SO4), that’s an important ultra-pure chemical. The new manufacturing facility at its Ludwigshafen site in Germany will feature cutting-edge purity capabilities to serve increasing demands for superior semiconductor chip production throughout Europe. Operations are anticipated to begin by 2027, coinciding with the capacity growth of main clients. The BASF funding could be in a high double-digit million-euro range.

With numerous new chip production plants being built or expanded in Europe, there’s an progressively more robust demand for high quality and excessive-purity semiconductor-grade chemicals, together with sulfuric acid. This need has been improved by way of a close cooperation companion of BASF, who’s recently building a brand new chip manufacturing plant in Europe. These chips are used in automobile, mobile communications and AI chip programs. BASF is investing within the semiconductor chemical price chain based on mutual long-time period client-provider commitments with its strategic companions.

This growth will significantly improve supply chain reliability for BASF’s partners by making sure a reliable and constant supply of high quality semiconductor-grade sulfuric acid produced regionally.

Located at the heart of BASF’s incorporated chemical production site in Ludwigshafen, the contemporary manufacturing plant, backed by rigorous quality-control measures, will ensure that clients receive chemicals of exceptional purity and quality, required for superior semiconductor production processes. Additionally, manufacturing in proximity to main consumer operations permits BASF to better meet their demands, imparting prompt support and minimizing lead times.

Anup Kothari, member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE, responsible for the Dispersions & Resins department, commented: “We are proud to have earned the accept as true with of main players in the semiconductor sector and to serve them as their companion of choice in establishing the future supply chain for improved semiconductor materials in Europe. This strategic flow underscores BASF’s commitment to a the assist growth of the advanced semiconductor industry in Europe while in addition leveraging the Ludwigshafen Verbund site.”
