CSIR-NBRI Opens A Lab On Perfumes

India-based CSIR- National Botanical Research Institute (NBIR) has set up Parijat Lab for the purpose of research and development of perfumed which are natural.

The institute shall take aid from Fragrance & Flavour Development Centre or FFDC at Kannauj, UP.

The domain is a first for CSIR-NBIR and that leftover flowers that are grown by farmers shall be used that come under floriculture mission. The flowers which are not sold shall be bought and perfume will be made from them. The said technology will be shared with private players as well who are interested.

The Director at NBRI said that in Kannauj the perfumes are made through external procurement of the ingredients while at NBRI, all activities like cultivating flowers to using their natural ingredients will be done for manufacturing perfumes.

The Indian market for perfumes is worth Rs. 10,000 crores and there is a lot of scope for people manufacturing perfumes from their own finished products.

Presently a practice of exporting the raw material is present and then importing it to India back at high cost by large players after finishing it with synthetic materials. The main point is to go vocal about the local said, the Director.
