Sibur, Russia’s largest manufacturer of polymers and rubbers, has declared that construction of its flagship investment venture– the Amur Gas Chemical Complex (AGCC) in the country’s East – is 87.9% entire as of the end of September. A total of 31,700 people had been engaged in the work on the site.

In August, delivery of oversized and heavy gadget for the new facility was finished. Over the course of numerous years, more than 450 units of equipment, with a total weight exceeding 40,000 tons, had been supplied to the construction site.

The Amur Gas Chemical Complex is ready to become one of the global largest polymer manufacturing plants with potential to manufacture 2.3-mtpa of polyethylene and 0.4-mtpa of polypropylene. Polyethylene manufacturing is planned to start within the second half of 2026, whilst polypropylene manufacturing is anticipated to begin in early 2027. Thanks to its scale, use of modern technological system, and get access to hydrocarbon feedstock from Eastern Siberia, the Amur GCC can have one of the lowest manufacturing prices in the world, as per Sibur. The new facility is placed close to the Chinese border and close to Russia’s Pacific ports. This geographic position will permit Sibur to export Amur GCC products to Southeast and South Asian countries.

The Amur GCC will manufacture polyethylene grades that Sibur has not produced before –which includes mHDPE, which improves the stretch ability of multi-layer films without impacting their transparency, and PERT polyethylene for hot water pipes with improved strength necessities. A new polypropylene manufacturing technology will significantly enlarge Sibur’s recent product range, including specialized polypropylene grades for injection moulding and BOPP (biaxially orientated polypropylene) films.
