SK Minerals creates a flame retardant without halogens

SK Minerals & Additives Ltd., a leading production and trading corporation in specialty chemicals, has declared the development of ‘Hofnil’, India’s first halogen-free flame retardant for production Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE) wires. The corporation ventures that the new product will gain cumulative revenues increasing Rs. 200-crore by the final year 2028.

The halogen-free flame retardant is designed for wire and cable producers to allow safer, more sustainable manufacturing. It addresses a long-standing industry challenge by not releasing toxic gases during combustion, thereby setting the industry on a greener path, stated Mr. Mohit Jindal, Chairman & Managing Director, SK Minerals.

“For decades, the industry confront the challenge of obtaining flame retardancy without compromising material properties. Hofnil overcomes this, setting the industry on a greener path andis a proud moment for the whole Indian chemical industry,” Mr. Jindal stated. The corporation is in the procedure of securing industry certifications and displaying the products to its customer and dealer networks for a wider release in the upcoming weeks.

“Our team spent years completing a formulation that balances thermal stability and compatibility added Director,
Mr. Rohit Jindal. SK Minerals, which mainly targets on food and feed additives, has a diverse product portfolio which consist chelated minerals, mineral mixtures, calcium propionate, ferric pyrophosphate, technical grade urea, virgin base oil, and magnesium oxide, serving numerous industries from food and bakery to animal feed and petroleum.

The corporation currently secured a Rs. 56.71-crore order from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. for supplying technical grade urea to four production plants across India.
