German methacrylates speciality, Röhm, has commissioned a new sulphuric acid plant in Worms, Germany. The plant replaces the earlier facility, which was damaged by a fire at the end of 2023.
Röhm claims to being the only global producer of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) with manufacturing sites in Europe, Asia and North America. Sulphuric acid is a main precursor for the manufacturing of MMA – an essential basic chemical for customers within the automotive, construction and medical technology industries and PMMA.
In current years, Röhm had already made aimed investments to strengthen its leadership position, consisting of significantly increasing PMMA manufacturing capacities and building a modernized innovation centre at the Worms site. Now, after only one and a half years of construction, the sulphuric acid plant has also been placed into operation. Equipped with modernized art technology, it sets new standards in performance and makes a extensive substantial to strengthening the regional supply of MMA.
