A suspected Sulphur Trioxide gas leak at Bhagaria Chemical Corporation in Tarapur MIDC, Palghar, claused panic in the early hours of the morning. Residents within a 3-4km radius mentioned eye infection and respiratory difficulties. Authorities cleared close by schools and residential areas and recommended residents areas to remain calm.
Palghar, on March 02: Panic spread across parts of Tarapur MIDC in Palghar district after a suspected Sulphur Trioxide, SO3, gas leak was reported at Bhagaria Chemical Company within the early hours of the morning. The incident took place round 2 am, prompting an instant reaction from the Boisar MIDC Fire Brigade, district administration and police.
Evacuation Of Residential Areas And Schools
Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh said teams are running to contain the source of the leak. “The fire brigade, district administration and police are trying to manage the situation. Do not panic,” he stated.
He told IANS that important residential areas and faculties in the vicinity are being evacuated as a precautionary measure. Nearby corporation have been also requested to close operations temporarily and move workers to safer locations.
Citizens have been advised to move in the opposite direction of the wind. Those allow to leave right away had been informed to seal doors and windows and stay indoors.
