NuScale Power Corporation, the leader in advanced small modular reactor (SMR) generation, has joined forces with Ebara Elliott Energy (EEE), a global turbomachinery powerhouse, to release a groundbreaking program targeting at supplying over commercial-scale high-temperature steam to petrochemical plants.

The collaboration will field-test a high-temperature steam compressor formed to combine NuScale Power Modules (NPM) with industrial centers in require of process heat.

NuScale’s NPMs, the first and only SMR design authorized by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, can form process steam at 500°C or higher— a accomplishment earlier seen as beyond the attain of conventional light water reactors.

EEE brings more than a century of experience manufacturing compressors, turbines, and pumps, with thousands of units working constantly in chemical centers worldwide. Together, the corporations target to integrate NuScale’s innovative nuclear technology with EEE’s proven turbomachinery expertise to deliver clean, dependable, and effective energy solutions— a primary for the petrochemical sector.

“The application of NuScale’s industry-pioneering technology to manufacture high temperature process steam is an interesting use case that unlocks considerable industrial opportunities for petrochemical plants, and we’re proud to partner with EEE to supply these high-performance energy solutions to clients worldwide,” stated José Reyes, Chief Technology Officer of NuScale Power.

“Not only does our collaboration with EEE reinforce NuScale’s strong supply chain, but their deep experience in turbomachinery and production excellence also fits perfectly with our project to offer safe, scalable, and carbon-free energy.”

Ron Josefczyk, Vice President, New Apparatus at Ebara Elliott Energy, added: “This partnership leverages our century of engineering excellence to increase the deployment of NuScale’s innovative clean energy technology. By integrating our specialised layout and production capabilities with NuScale’s SMR design, we are form a reliable, low-carbon power solution particularly optimized for the high demands of the global petrochemical industry.”

The venture is underway, with the compressor anticipated to be finished by 2027. NuScale and EEE are recently in search of candidates for the next phase: field testing.
