Signed a contract for the sale of the innovative Dragonfly electrolyzer, with a production ability of 1 MW, as part of a PNRR-funded project for the green transition in Sardinia

De Nora, an Italian multinational corporation specializing in electrochemistry and a leader in sustainable technologies and the rising green hydrogen enterprise, is partnering with Maffei Sarda Silicati to construct a green hydrogen production plant positioned in the Sardinian municipality of Ossi (Sassari).

The project, financed via PNRR funds and promoted by using the local organisation Maffei Sarda Silicati – working within the field of extraction, processing, and advertising of raw material specially intended for the ceramic and hollow glass markets- is coordinated via Make Energy as technical advisor and sees De Nora concerned for the supply of its Dragonfly small electrolyzer, with a production capacity of 1 MW.

The production site, positioned on a decommissioned commercial area in the municipality of Ossi, may be redeveloped via Maffei Sarda SilicatI itself and will generate about 50 tons of hydrogen per year, which the Sardinian agency will use to power its industrial plant, partially changing the fossil fuel currently used, with giant decarbonization benefits. In addition, the green hydrogen plant may be powered by a new 1.5 MW photovoltaic plant located in the same location, accordingly making sure a 100% sustainable industrial process.

Significantly, the function of the municipal administration, that is charge of issuing the compulsory authorizations for the construction of the plant, was immediately welcomed by the Mayor of Ossi – Pasquale Libinu.

In addition to meeting Maffei Sarda Silicati’s energy desires, the green hydrogen consequently generated may have numerous applications, such as in sustainable mobility, enterprise, power generation, and heating, positively contributing to the decarbonization of the Sardinia Region.

Paolo Dellachà, CEO of De Nora, commented, “We are proud to have been selected as a partner in this project as a way to extensively boost Sardinia’s green transition. Through its sustainable and innovative solutions, including the Dragonfly® electrolyzer, De Nora is all over again a facilitator of green manufacturing techniques, undoubtedly impacting territories and communities. Our electrolyzer, advanced in-residence and patented, is confirmed to be a main product, especially appropriate for nearby commercial needs, as a modular plug-and-play solution.”

Federico Fiorelli, President of Maffei Sarda Silicati, introduced, “Maffei Sarda Silicati SpA is pleased to announce the agreement reached with the company De Nora; agreement implemented for the construction and installation of a 1 MW electrolyzer by June 2026 that will be used for the production of green hydrogen. The hydrogen may be fed into the drying procedure of the sands mined by the corporation, with a huge reduction in CO2 emissions. This is yet every other step that Maffei Sarda Silicati SpA is taking to attain zero emissions inside all its activities and increasingly consistent with its policy of respect for the environment.”

Pasquale Libinu, Mayor of Ossi: “The topic of renewable energy sources has become increasingly relevant; the progressive projects offered by Maffei and the PNRR funding achieved is very good result due to the locationon a site that become exploited from a mining point of view, then restored and now once more affected by this intervention. The future, which requires more and more energy, isn’t always in coal or different fossil sources however inside the use of clean energies, which must be realized not only because they are incentivized but because they are necessary for the environment.”
