Arkema proceeds to decarbonize its Lacq/Mourenx site

Arkema has accomplished the modernization and decarbonization venture for its Lacq/Mourenx site, which is expertise a specialty sulfur derivatives used specifically in agrochemicals, refining, petrochemicals, and renewable fuels.

Following a primary investment begun up in 2022 that yielded a 28% decrease in the site’s greenhouse gas emissions, this new venture consist the construction of a treatment plant for sulfur-based effluents which operates a more efficient technique that support reduce down SO2 emissions by 40% and GHG emissions by over 10%.

Moreover, this new procedure will lead the manufacturing of sulfuric acid for used as a raw material by other industrial sites, for this reason reflecting the Group’s circular economy method. Finally, the venture may also assist decrease the site’s water intake.

“Through this investment, we reaffirm our commitment to decrease our carbon footprint and actively participating to the fight against global warming. As a accountable producer, we enforce progressive solutions to obtain our ambitious decarbonization targets, while assisting our partners and clients in their quest for sustainable performance,” stated Bertrand Leroux, Plant Manager, Arkema.

Representing an investment of €40 million, this venture is partially financed by the French State as a part of the France 2030 plan operated by ADEME (French Agency for the Environment and Energy Management).
