Bulgarian fertiliser company, Agropolychim, has released the construction of a new plant for manufacturing of calcium nitrate (CN). The investment, valued at over Euro 40-mn, marks the starting of the execution segment of the company’s long-term strategic investment programme, geared toward expanding and diversifying its product portfolio. The basic value of the programme exceeds Euro 250-mn.
“Pursuit a lengthy layout and regulatory approval technique, construction activities are underway, with all vital technological device already delivered,” the company informed in a press notice.
The company stated the nearly 5 years of delays was resulting from “complicated administrative approaches in Bulgaria, including urban planning, environmental effect assessments, included permit, and construction authorization”. These challenges aren’t rooted in legislation but in restrained administrative capacity and terrible inter-institutional coordination, it added.
The venture includes the reconstruction of the prevailing infrastructure and the development of a brand new manufacturing line with an annual capability of 50,000 tons of granulated, water-soluble calcium nitrate, as well as the construction of a new logistics base for packaging, storage, and distribution.
With this venture, Agropolychim is getting into a new marketplace segment – premium agricultural products with high introduced value. In addition to calcium nitrate, the new facility will enable the manufacture of a huge variety of liquid fertilisers enriched with calcium, sulphur, magnesium, potassium, and micronutrients. This will permit the growth of customized formulations to satisfy the specific requirements of different crops and farming systems.
The company anticipates the European calcium nitrate market to grow progressively, with a projected CAGR of over 3% in the next 5 years. While the one awareness might be on export markets – in particular in Southern and Western Europe – the product may also be made available to Bulgarian farmers at particularly competitive costs as compared to imported options.
Calcium nitrate is a high-performance mineral fertiliser that is specifically suitable for vegetable and fruit cultivation. Demand is highest amongst professional growers the use of fertigation systems.
The manufacturing of calcium nitrate at Agropolychim will be completely primarily based on low-carbon (blue) ammonia, produced using carbon seize technology, substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The steam and electricity used in the process may also be primarily sourced from renewable energy. This could be one of the first products in the company
s portfolio to hold a certified low carbon footprint, verified by an independent body, assembly the growing demand from EU farmers for environmentally sustainable solutions.
