BASF has declared a hit startup of its new global-scale hexamethylenediamine (HMD) plant in Chalampé, France, construction of which commenced in 2022. The plant expands BASF’s annual HMD manufacturing potential to 260-ktpa. HMD is a precursor used in the manufacturing of polyamide (PA) 66 polymers and coatings raw materials.

“This investment emphasizes BASF’s sturdy commitment to chemical manufacturing in Europe and our determination to help regional growth,” stated Dr. Stephan Kothrade, member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF.

The plant is an important component of BASF’s PA 66 business in Europe. In addition to starting up the new HMD plant, the corporation is in the final level of increasing its PA 66 manufacturing in Freiburg, Germany.

“The a successful completion of this investment venture is a extensive step toward our aim of being the main provider for HMD and the preferred partner for PA 66 in Europe,” stated Dr. Ram kumar Dhruva, President of BASF’s Monomers department.

The economic and industrial platform in the Al-sace region of France and the direct integration into the principle raw material, adipo-nitrile (ADN), gives a ideal setup for the manufacturing and deliver of HMD. In addition to chemical manufacturing assets, BASF operates a R&D laboratory in addition to corresponding infrastructure committed to PA 66 research at the Chalampé site.
