Assam’s Numaligarh Refinery Limited or NRL is going to export about 10,000 metric tonnes or MT of petroleum and petrochemical prodcts every month from Jogighopa Multi-modal terminal.
On signing the Memorandum of Understanding or MoU between NRL and Inland Waterways Authority of India or IWAI, Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Ayush stressed the transformative impact of the Act East Policy on the growth of Northeast India.
Mr Sonowal emphasized the implications of MoU. The signing of the document was attended by IWAI and NRL officials and esteemed guests along with other key stakeholders.
The Minister also quoted that the MoU is a significant step towards trade promotion in the Northeast area and that under the Act East policy the complete potential of the Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 is witnessed.
The export of the products aligns with the Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 that rings in the new era for the Northeast region of EXIM trade. The transportation of inland waterways shall be through NW2 and IBPR which reveals a new chapter of development for the Northeast.
The MoU was signed by Sh. A Selva Kumar, Director, IWAI and Sh. Subrata Das, Chief General Manager of Marketing, NRL.
Through this MoU, IWAI shall extend its terminal facilities for the allocation of land, technical support, and cargo movement to lay petroleum pipelines.
Also, NRL shall provide the required infrastructure for loading and unloading products of petroleum.
The Minister emphasised the brilliant growth under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, of the sector both in infrastructural development and in cargo movement.
According to the Union Minister, Sh. Sonowal, “In line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s ‘Act East Policy,’ the IWAI and Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways have been making transformational changes in the Waterways sector in India over the last 9 years. These measures have led to exceptionally remarkable changes”.
The signing of the MoU was attended by dignitaries such as the NRL and IWAI officials, Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Labour & Employment Rameshwar Teli, and by the Transport, Excise & Fisheries Minister of Assam, Mr. Parimal Suklabaidya.
