450,000 tons year deduction of CO2 emissions from TotalEnergies’ Anvers and Zeeland refineries

In line with its 2030 initiatives to decarbonize the hydrogen utilized in its European refineries, TotalEnergies has signed agreements with Air Liquide to involve two ventures in the Netherlands, for the manufacture and shipping of some 45,000 tons a year of green hydrogen manufactured the use of renewable power, created mostly by the OranjeWind offshore wind farm, involved by using TotalEnergies (50%) and RWE (50%). These ventures will reduce CO2 emissions from TotalEnergies’ refineries in Belgium and the Netherlands with the aid of up to 450,000 tons a year and make contributions to the European renewable energy objectives in shipping.

The two enterprises have signed an agreement to start a joint venture, equally retained by TotalEnergies (50%) and Air Liquide (50%), so that you can build and manage a 250 MW electrolyzer near the Zeeland refinery. This venture will permit the manufacture of up to 30,000 tons of green hydrogen a year, maximum of so one can be delivered to Zeeland’s platform. The electrolyzer can be commissioned in 2029 and will reduce the site CO2 emissions by up to 300,000 tons a year. This venture depicts a global funding of round €600 million for both companions and has made requests for help beneath European and national subsidy applications. Venture investment may also be pursued by the partners.

In addition, as part of Air Liquide’s 200 MW ELYgator electrolyzer venture found in Maasvlakte (Netherlands), TotalEnergies has signed a tolling agreement for a130 MW to be devoted to the manufacture of 15,000 tons consistent with year of green hydrogen for the TotalEnergies platform in Antwerp. Under this agreement, TotalEnergies will deliver the renewable electrons manufactured by means of the OranjeWind venture to Air Liquide to be covered into green hydrogen. The venture is anticipated to be functioning by the end of 2027 and will decrease CO2 emissions at the Antwerp site through up to 150,000 tons per year.

“Perusing the first partnership agreement with Air Liquide to deliver the Normandy refinery with green hydrogen, and the agreements to deliver the Grandpuits and La Mède biorefineries with renewable hydrogen, the partnership with Air Liquide takes on a new measurement and marks a new step in TotalEnergies’ initiative to decarbonize the hydrogen absorbed by using its refineries in Europe by 2030”, stated Vincent Stoquart, President, Refining & Chemicals at TotalEnergies. “By providing these two electrolyzers with renewable electricity from our offshore wind venture in the Netherlands, TotalEnergies is using its locating as an incorporated electricity enterprise.”

“Flagship ventures which include the ones we are pronouncing, will play a main function in decreasing emissions, mainly in difficult-to-abate sectors consisting of industry and heavy mobility. We are proud to guide the way of European renewable and low-carbon hydrogen manufacture, and to accompany TotalEnergies in their adventure to decarbonizing their commercial belongings. These two ventures will complete the five Air Liquide low carbon units already in function or construction in Europe. This explains our potential to provide actual solutions to our clients, to attain our carbon neutrality ambition by 2050, and to aid Europe’s management initiatives closer to decarbonized increase. It additionally demonstrates the potential of Air Liquide to evolve solid commercial model in the energy area of low carbon hydrogen.” stated Emilie Mouren-Renouard, member of the Air Liquide Executive Committee, in charge of Europe operations.
