India’s first green hydrogen plant for the float glass industry

INOX Air Products, the country’s largest manufacturer of industrial, medical, and electronic gases, has effectively commissioned its first green hydrogen production plant.

Located at Asahi India Glass Limited’s (AIS) new greenfield flow glass enterprise in Soniyana, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, this venture marks a big step in the direction of sustainable industrial practices in India.

In partnership with AIS, India’s main glass producer, INOX will supply green hydrogen under a 20-year agreement. This collaboration is composed to convert the float glass manufacturing procedure by combining green hydrogen, that allows you to be produced by the use of solar energy and an electrolysis process.

The newly installed plant is designed to supply as much as 190 tons of green hydrogen yearly. In the initial segment, 95 lots per year will be provided to the AIS facility, so as to use it in its float glass production procedure—making this India’s first-ever instance of using the green hydrogen in glass manufacturing.

“By Utilizing solar energy to generate green hydrogen, we are pioneering a sustainable approach to glass production,” INOX Air Products stated in a announcement. “This initiative is a main step in lowering the carbon footprint of industrial procedures and could power the adoption of green hydrogen in India’s production quarter.”

The venture is powered by a solar power plant that supplies renewable energy for the manufacturing of green hydrogen, marking a widespread commitment to sustainability. As a part of the agreement, AIS has funded in the solar power infrastructure at its Soniyana facility.

Siddharth Jain, Managing Director of INOX Air Products, highlighted the environmental effect, stating, “Our green hydrogen deliver will lessen CO2 emissions at AIS’ facility with the aid of about 1,250 lots annually. This initiative is a essential step in India’s shift towards a low-carbon economy.”

Rupinder Shelly, Chief Operating Officer of Architectural Glass at AIS, emphasize the enterprise’s growing commitment to sustainability. “With the release of INOXAP’s green hydrogen plant, we are strengthening our dedication to sustainable operations. Our purpose is to satisfy 94% of the power requires of our Soniyana facility from green strength sources. We will hold to fund in sustainable technologies to help de-carbonization and circularity.”
