Clariant Selected For Production Plant in China

Clariant has been selected and given a contract for a new maleic anhydride (MA) production plant in China’s Jiangsu province in Lianyungang by Jiangsu Shenghong Petrochemical Co. Ltd. The company, Clariant will use its SynDance 3142 LA catalyst for the new plant.

The plant will start its production in 2025 and shall have a production capacity of 200 000 tpy. The plant is anticipated to be one of the largest production plants for MA across the globe.

It will manufacture MA as an intermediate product for polybutylene adipate terephthalate or PBAT which will function as a base product for biogradable plastic. Jiangsu Shenghong Petrochemical with the catalyst will be able to improve its production efficiency and shall reduce power consumption, leading to savings in energy of upto 24mn CNY.

SynDane 3142 LA decreases the drop in pressure by 30%-35% with its unique shape design and also reduces compressor energy consumption.

The catalyst can also operate under high n-butane load that further decreases energy consumption further as less air is required to be compressed to a lower pressure to get similar productivity level.

The catalyst’s special structure and composition of chemical increases the selectivity towards MA that enhances yield of product and minimizes by-product formation, thereby making less downtime for cleaning equipments.

The production efficiency is also further boosted by SynDane’s long life for uptill five years.

Additionally, the catalyst’s large range of space velocity improves Shenghong’s MA production volume flexibility to upto 2100 h-1 which is an excellent value, thereby enabling the company to react to demand fluctuations swiftly.
