Japan’s Taki Chemical stated it would invest about $20-mn (¥3-bn) to expand manufacturing facilities for its ultra-high basicity poly-aluminium chloride product, PAC700A, at its headquarters plant in Kakogawa City, Hyogo Prefecture, with completion scheduled for July 2028.

‘PAC700A’ is an environmentally friendly water treatment agent providing higher coagulation performance than conventional products, the company stated, adding that it decrease costs by lowering the amount of chemical used and sludge generated, whilst supporting address the deterioration of raw water quality due to climate change and supporting stable operation of water treatment centers. Sales volume has been growing gradually on the back of these performance characteristics, it stated.

The expansion will raise PAC700A manufacturing capacity at the plant by about 40,000 tons a year, effectively doubling current output, more often to meet increasing demand in the Kinki, Chugoku-Shikoku and Tokai areas, Taki Chemical said. The additional volume is equivalent to about 7% of Japan’s domestic PAC market, evaluated at about 590,000 tons a year.

The company, which has more than half a century of experience in the water treatment chemicals business, presently holds a market share of over 30% in Japan’s domestic PAC market, it stated. Along with a completed capacity expansion at its Chiba plant and an ongoing expansion at its Kyushu plant, the headquarters plant venture forms part of a wider effort to reinforce nationwide supply capacity, with the company targeting to obtain a 50% domestic market share at an early stage.
