US-based chemicals major, Lubrizol, and Grasim Industries, a flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, have inaugurated a Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) resin production facility at Vilayat, Gujarat. The plant, integrated with enhanced CPVC compounding capacity at Lubrizol’s Dahej facility, forms one of India’s most incorporated CPVC production footprints.

The Vilayat plant is targeted toward reinforcing local supply of CPVC resin and compounds for pipes and fittings utilized in residential, industrial, and commercial applications. Lubrizol stated the incorporated setup is designed to strengthen supply chain resilience in support of India’s infrastructure development.

Mr. Abhishek Shrivastav, Managing Director, Lubrizol IMEA, stated the company had presented CPVC technology to India over 2-decades ago and was now reinforcing its production capabilities by a local-for-local approach.

Mr. Jayant V. Dhobley, Business Head & CEO, Global Chemicals, Aditya Birla Group, stated the venture brought together Grasim’s production and execution capability with Lubrizol’s technology to deliver dependable CPVC materials for the market.

The inauguration signifies a milestone in Lubrizol’s 60-year presence in India. When declared in 2023, the Vilayat CPVC resin plant was Lubrizol’s most considerable investment commitment within the region.

Over the final 2-3 years, Lubrizol has made investment commitments of more than $350-mn into India. In 2024, Lubrizol had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Maharashtra to buy a 120-acre plot in Aurangabad, wherein it plans to build a new production facility to first guide the region’s developing transportation and industrial fluid markets. The initial phase of the project is likely to include investment of about $200-mn, the company’s largest ever in India. That plant is anticipated to become the company’s second-largest production facility globally and its largest production facility in India when completed.

The company currently commissioned a Global Capabilities Centre in Pune, accelerated its Vikhroli office in Mumbai, and declared a committed India Innovation Centre.
