Specialty chemical maker’s Indonesia and China sites had been verified to manufacture tire pyrolysis oil-based materials using mass balance strategy.
Cabot Corp., a Boston-primarily based specialty chemicals and advanced materials corporation, said its manufacturing facilities in Cilegon, Indonesia, and Tianjin, China, have verified manufacturing of circular strengthening carbons beneath its EVOLVE Sustainable Solutions platform, increasing regional potential within the Asia Pacific.
The products are produced using tire pyrolysis oil obtained from end-of-life tires and are manufactured underneath an International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS mass balance approach, as per the corporation. With the validation of the 2-Asia websites, Cabot stated it now has circular strengthening carbon manufacturing capability throughout Asia, Europe and the Americas.
The materials are formed as direct replacements for conventional carbon black, permitting tire producers to boost sustainable material content without changing performance, the corporation stated. Cabot added that regional manufacturing assists its “make-in-region, sell-in-region” model, targeted at advancing supply chain performance.
In addition to the Indonesia and China centers, Cabot stated sites in Ville Platte, Louisiana; Mauá, Brazil; and Valasske Mezirici, Czech Republic, have showed same manufacturing functionality. The corporation said it now has 13 ISCC PLUS-certified sites helping its circular strengthening carbon portfolio globally, as well as 2-certified masterbatch and compounding sites in Europe.
At the beginning of this month, Cabot also finalized the acquisition of Mexico Carbon production S.A. De C.V. From Bridgestone Corporation. The corporation stated the addition of the Altamira, Mexico-area facility expands its strengthen carbon production footprint, improves operational flexibility and reinforce supply reliability for customers in the region.
