Baystar JV Polyethylene Unit To Be Launched By TotalEnergies And Borealis

Borealis and TotalEnergies have announced the start of their joint venture Baystar’s new unit. It has a capacity of 6,25,000 metric ton per year. The unit doubles the present manufacturing capacity at Baystar’s site in Texas’ Pasadena.

Baystar is a joint venture between TotalEnergies and Borealis.

The unit is worth USD1.4bn and includes the expanded Bayport PE facility. It also comprises ethane cracker at the platform of TotalEnergies in Texas’ Port Arthur.

The new unit is also referred to as Bay 3 and increases Baystar’s site total production to more than 1mn ton each year including two legacy PE production units.

The unit comprises Borstar 3G technology licenced in North America for the very first time. The said technology gives advanced value-added polymers with greater sustainability through the encouragement of light-weighting. It also incorporates a high percentage of post-consumer recycled materials in various end products thereby serving energy, consumer products as well as infrastructure industries.
