Lotte Chemical will shut down its 1.1 million-ton naphtha cracking middle (NCC) on the Daesan petrochemical complex, following a self-restructuring agreement with HD Hyundai Chemical. The choice comes as Korean petrochemical manufacturers confront numerous market pressure from China-driven oversupply.
As per industry and financial authorities at the 25th, the 2-corporations accepted to consolidate their NCC operations at Daesan. Lotte Chemical will finish the operations at its facility, even as HD Hyundai Chemical will operate its 850,000-ton cracker as the unified plant. Lotte will change its Daesan facility to HD Hyundai Chemical, in order to make contributions cash to form a 50:50 joint venture.
Once consolidation is finish, the Daesan complex’s ethylene capacity will reduce from 1.95 million tons to 850,000 tons, accomplishing more or less one-third of the authorities’ voluntary ability-decreased target for the sector. Korea’s petrochemical industry formerly committed to reducing 18–25% (2.7–3.7 million tons) of national NCC capacity amid long-term oversupply worries.
The flow is anticipated to increase restructuring discussions at different fundamental complexes—which include Yeosu (LG Chem, GS Caltex, Yeochun NCC) and Ulsan (Korea Petrochemical, SK Geo Centric, S-Oil)—because the industry follows aligned downsizing to keep away from losses from unilateral reductions.
