France-based chemical corporation, Arkema, has reinforced its fluoro-specialties commercial business with the beginning of its new Forane 1233zd – branded foam blowing agent manufacturing unit in the US.

With the successful start-up of this 15-ktpa unit in Calvert City, Kentucky, Arkema is boosting up its low Global Warming Potential (GWP) fluoro-special- ties portfolio, to fulfill the increasing requirement for more sustainable solutions in building insulation and thermal management.

Arkema, had in 2022, declared the investment of around $60-mn in Calvert City to upgrade its preceding HFC (hydrofluorocarbons) manufacturing line right into a modern day HFO (hydro-fluoro-olefin) 1233zd unit.

As a non-ozone depleting foam- blowing agent with a 99% reduction in GWP as compared to the legacy HFC solution, Forane FBA 1233zd is SNAP-approved for most polyurethane foam applications. In addition, Forane HTS 1233zd cooling properties permit green and sustainable thermal management, considerably in excessive temperature heat-pumps and data centres cooling.
